WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS – Despite the influence of Internet and video games, kids today are not immune to the power of great art. The effect of viewing an oil painting or print, in all its mute glory, can be profound. If you’re able to get your hands on an oversized art book, or if you can make a color transparency of a famous painting, try using artwork to inspire creative writing. Get your kids to tell the tale behind the picture. Edvard Munch’s The Scream or Vincent Van Gogh’s The Potato Eaters are great story starters.
