OCTOBER 29th -- PARADE PARTY

The Statue of Liberty dedication ceremony culminated in a parade through New York City on this day in 1886.  In a spontaneous gesture, office workers began throwing shredded ticker tape from their windows.  It marked the first appearance of confetti in a parade venue.

Tip:  Go ahead, do it.  Make some confetti!  Celebrate the weather, your wonderful family or something that makes you smile.  Have your family gather all of your pets & stuffed animals to be the spectators.  Create parade floats or costumes out of household items & let the festivities begin.  Weather permitting, take your celebration outside.  Need something easier?  Wake your children up by tossing confetti on their beds & celebrating the freedom that the Statue of Liberty represents.
