WRITING ACTIVITIES FOR YOUR LITTLE ENTREPRENEUR: MENUS, MAP, BROCHURES, AND MORE!

Kids of all ages love pretend play. Spice it up! Encourage your child to build his or her own company: a hair salon for dolls, a repair shop for broken toys, or a fancy restaurant. You and your child can even chose a real endeavor such as a lemonade stand or walking the neighbors' dogs. As part of the fun, help your child put ideas on paper.
  • Design an advertisement for a sign, webpage, or newspaper ad. Use fun colors, add pictures, and choose interesting and descriptive words to attract the interest of potential clinets.
  • Write a press release for the web or newspaper. Include the purpose of the business, the location, and the reasons clients wants to use your services.
  • Draw a map. For older kids, the map can show the location of the business in the neighborhood or even the city. For younger kids, the map can show the location of the business within the house or yard.
  • Write a commercial for radio or television. Pracitce using catchy words, jingles, and phrases to get the attention of others within 30 seconds!
  • Write a job descriptions. As the business grows, more employees will be needed!
  • Write a menu or list of services. To take orders from family members or friends, a menu or list of services describes exactly what is offered. Include prices as well and practice math skills when totaling the bill.
  • Develop a brochure. Use parts of the advertisement, mission statement, menu, map, etc. to create a brochure that is eye-catching and explains the business.
  • Encourage the use of descriptive words, correct punctuation, capitalization, and proper grammar so the company sounds professional and exciting.
Your child will have so much fun becoming a CEO! He or she will develop an entrepreneurial spirit and won't realize the writing, math and visual skills being practiced.
Happy Writing!
