FEBRUARY 11th – INVENTORS' DAY
At Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, over one hundred years ago, Orville and Wilbur Wright launched mankind's first powered flight -- the 12-second journey that revolutionized air travel. On February 11, 2003, marking the centennial date of the Wright Brothers' achievement, America celebrated its first Inventors' Day.
Tips: Talk with your child about how inventions can be big or small -- as small as the paper clip or as big as an airplane. Grab an assortment of things from around the house and have your child invent something. Or simply make inventions happen while talking at the dinner table or riding in the car -- start talking about what the child could invent to solve a problem they see in the house, at school or in his or her neighborhood. Encourage your child to stretch his or her invention imagination today.
