APRIL 26th – PRETZEL DAY

It is believed that a young monk in northern Italy introduced the pretzel on this day in 610 A.D.  While preparing unleavened bread for Lent, he decided to twist the leftover dough into figures representative of arms folded in prayer with hands on the opposite shoulders (as was custom then).   He called his creation pretiola, meaning, "little reward."
