APRIL 13TH – HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCRABBLE

Triple word score!  Aflred Butts was born in Poughkeepsie, New York,  on this day in 1899.   As an unemployed architect during the Great Depression, Butts invented a board game using lettered tiles that he was calling "Scrabble."  When a Macy's executive noticed vacationers playing one of Butts' board games at a resort in 1952, the department store bought the rights and began large-scale manufacture.

Tip:  Have each family member write down or draw a picture of his/her favorite family game.  Take turns drawing each game name/picture out of a container.  This will determine the order for your Family Game Night or Nights (if multiple days, post the game name/picture on the calendar so all will see the upcoming games).  OR fill your container with as many game names/pictures as you can & play one of the lowest-tech games around....charades!
